Duchess of Cambridge attends first formal function since pregnancy announcement (VIDEO)

The Duchess of Cambridge, formerly Kate Middleton, has attended her first public engagement since her pregnancy was announced this month.

Prince William's wife attended BBC's Sports Personality of the Year Awards in London wearing a floor-length dark green Alexander McQueen dress, though according to US Magazine no baby bump was visible.

The duchess, who is 12 weeks pregnant, appeared on stage at London's ExCel center to present the top prize to 2012 Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins, the BBC reported.

The Lifetime Achievement award went to Lord Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London 2012 Olympics organizing committee.

Previously, Catherine had only been seen Dec. 6 leaving the King Edward VII Hospital where she stayed for three days suffering from acute morning sickness.

Her hospitalization and subsequent rest orders that kept her at home at Kensington Palace forced her to pull out of several recent events, including the UK premiere of "The Hobbit" in London this week, CNN reported.

Other awards presented were the Lifetime Achievement honor to Lord Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London 2012 Olympics organizing committee.

Catherine's time in hospital was marred by the suspected suicide of a nurse who inadvertently allowed two Australian radio hosts posing as the Queen to access private information about her condition.

The body of the nurse, Jacintha Saldanha, arrived in the city of Mangalore, India, for burial this morning, the BBC reported.
