Instagram interferes with Twitter photos as tensions escalate

Nope, you're not going crazy: Instagram photos are displaying weirdly on Twitter. 

The photo-sharing app, which was formerly allied with Twitter but has since become a direct competitor, disabled the ability for their photos to display properly on Twitter's site Wednesday. The result? Cropped, oddly off-center photos, and some more beef between the two social media companies, the New York Times reported.

“Users are experiencing issues with viewing Instagram photos on Twitter,” Twitter said on its website. “This is due to Instagram disabling its Twitter cards integration, and as a result, photos are being displayed using a pre-cards experience.”

"Instagram and Twitter. They used to be hot and heavy," Gizmodo blogger Leslie Horn wrote. "Then Instagram cheated on Twitter/was bought by Facebook and the whole relationship went down the drain. Messy breakups are never fun for anyone. Or, until this gets resolved, for your Twitter feed." 

It is unclear whether the company will completely disable Twitter's ability to showcase Instagram photos. 

Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom apologized for the "confusing" switch at the LeWeb conference Wednesday morning, saying that they maintained a strong relationship with Twitter "we will always be integrated with Twitter in a way that you can tweet out from Instagram to Twitter," The Verge reported. 

He also said the switch was not related to Facebook policy.

"This isn't actually a consequence of us getting acquired," said Systrom. 

Last month, Twitter announced its addition of a photo filter option for pictures uploaded to the site, Mashable reported, a clear effort on Twitter's part to continue to compete against Instagram.
