Thanksgiving box office record set by ‘Skyfall,’ ‘Breaking Dawn,’ and ‘Lincoln’

Moviegoers gave the box office record-breaking revenues over Thanksgiving weekend in the US, with movies like "Skyfall," and "Lincoln" taking in $290 million for the period from Wednesday through Sunday.
The previous record of $270.5 was set in 2009, according to The Hollywood Reporter, when "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" led the box office.
The Associated Press reported that "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2" took the No. 1 spot again, earning $64 million over Thanksgiving weekend. The latest installment of Bond, "Skyfall," took in $51 million and took the No. 2 spot, while Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" earned $34.1 million coming in third place.

"Rise of the Guardians," a family friendly movie about mythical figures like Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy, earned $24 million in its first weekend, while Ang Lee's "Life of Pi" took in $22 million on its debut, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The AP noted that this Thanksgiving was a 25 percent gain over last year, when the box office took in only $232 million.
Box office numbers for 2012 are on track for revenues to hit $11 billion, according to Hollywood.com analyst Paul Dergarabedian. "We're barreling toward a record-breaking box-office year," he said.
