Krim murder motive: Nanny was angry she had to do housework and care for children

NEW YORK — Nanny Yoselyn Ortega, who is accused of stabbing to death the two Krim children, has allegedly told police she became enraged when her employers asked her to do extra housework. 

According to The New York Post, Ortega had explained to Marina and Kevin Krim that she was struggling financially. The couple offered to boost her income by paying her for five extra hours work to clean their New York apartment. 

But this only angered the 50-year-old nanny, from the Dominican Republic.

“She said something like, ‘I’m paid to watch the children, not clean up and do housework,’ ” a police source told The Post.

The source said friction had developed in the month prior to the killings after the Krims spoke to Ortega about her work performance, and informed her that if it did not improve they would have to let her go.

Ortega remains in a New York hospital, recovering from self inflicted stab wounds.

She has not yet been charged in the killings, but is expected to be arraigned from her hospital bed.

She allegedly murdered Lucia, 6, and Leo, 2, in the bathtub on October 25. Marina Krim returned home with her other child when they failed to meet her for swimming lessons and made the shocking discovery.

The Daily Mail reported last week the young Krim family treated Ortega, who had worked for them for two years, like family, and paid for her to fly home to visit her family. 

Ortega's niece, Katherine Garcia, said her aunt had been acting differently in recent months, had lost weight and was nervous, but she insisted she loved the Krim children. 

Friends said she was struggling financially and had lost her apartment in the Bronx. Investigations are continuing into reports she was under the care of a psychologist.
