Pakistan collision kills 24

At least 24 passengers have died in a collision in Pakistan’s central Punjab province.

According to CNN, senior police official Sohail Tajik said a passenger van collided with a truck on a main street near the city of Bahawalpur on Tuesday morning. Of the 24 dead, seven women and one child are from the same family. Two other children were also killed. Twelve were injured and were taken to a local hospital.

"We have received and shifted 24 dead bodies and 12 injured to the Victoria Hospital in Bahawalpur so far," rescue worker Majid Saleem told CNN.

The van was traveling to Ahmedpur Sharqia from Bahawalpur when it collided head-on with the truck, reported the Press Trust of India. Twelve people were killed instantly and another 12 died at the hospital. Several of the injured were listed in critical condition after rescue teams had to cut through the mangled metal of the van to remove them from the wreckage.
