'All clear' given at Canadian embassy in Washington after letter scare

GlobalPost

CNN reported the Canadian embassy in Washington has been given the 'all clear' after it was evacuated Thursday morning over concerns of a suspicious letter.

Reuters reported the embassy's 325 employees were turning to work after being evacuated at about 9:30 a.m. eastern time due to the discovery of the envelope in the mailroom.

DC Police told CNN that package contained a white substance.

The US Secret Service is currently investigating the incident but the embassy's spokesman Chris Plunkett said there were no other details, Reuters wrote.

Ambassador Gary Doer said fire fighters, the Secret Service and a bomb squad had been called to the scene and parts of Pennsylvania Avenue had been blocked off.
