Gary Collins, actor, TV host, dies at 74

Gary Collins, an actor who also hosted television shows and the Miss America Pageant, died early on Saturday morning at the age of 74.

The Associated Press reported that Collins died of natural causes after being admitted on Friday evening to the Biloxi Regional Medical Center, according to Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove.

CNN noted that Collins was married to former Miss America Mary Anne Mobley. He appeared in the television series "The Sixth Sense" and "Born Free" in the 1970s. He also had small roles on "Charlie's Angels" and "Fantasy Island."

During the 1980s, Collins hosted the Miss America Pageant and the talk show "Hour Magazine," for which he won a Daytime Emmy in 1983.

Collins passion for acting reportedly started when he became an announcer and disc jockey for the Armed Forces Radio, while in the army.

The Los Angeles Times noted that Collins had some run-ins with the law, having been arrested in 2011 for leaving a restaurant without paying, and convicted for two separate DUI cases in 2007 and 2009.
