An Oregon farmer was found dead last week after being devoured by pigs.

Family members found the remains of Terry Vance Garner, 70, who had almost completely been consumed by the animals.

They last saw Garner just before he left the house at 7:30 am to feed the pigs, reported NBC News.

When he didn't return, they went to check on him and initially found his dentures on the ground in the pen.

The rest of Garner was found but only a few pieces remained.

Investigations are underway in determining how Garner died and, was eaten.

Some suspect a heart attack, while other speculation says that he may have fallen down due to his old age, at which point the pigs killed and ate him.

A pathologist was unable to determine what killed the man.

Foul play is also being investigated by police.

KMTR.com reported that some of Garner's hogs had acted aggressively in the past according to those who knew the farm.

These were also very large animals with some weighing up to 700 pounds.

The man's brother Michael Garner said that Terry had always been good to the animals.

“Those animals were his life,” said Michael Garner.

“He had all kinds of birds, and turkeys that ran all over the place. Everybody knew him.”

The attack is not without precedent.

In a similar incident in 2004 in Romania a woman was knocked over and eaten by her hogs, said NBC News.

Readers of George Orwell's Animal Farm can only imagine how scary this trend could become.
