Stephen Barton, Aurora shooting victim, films anti-gun PSA (VIDEO)

Following a summer filled with violent gun attacks in the United States, one victim is speaking out. 

Stephen Barton, an Aurora movie theater shooting victim, is starring in a new PSA aimed at putting pressure on the presidential candidates to come up with a solution to gun violence. So far, neither candidate has taken a stand on gun control. According to the Huffington Post, Mitt Romney opposes them outright, while President Obama and his administration have argued that passing new laws would be too difficult in the current political climate.

"This past summer in a movie theater in Colorado I was shot," Baron says in the commercial. "But I was lucky. In the next four years, 48,000 Americans won't be so lucky. Because they'll be murdered with guns in the next president's term. Enough to fill over 200 theaters."

The commercial is currently airing in Colorado, where the first presidential debate will take place this Wednesday, along with Washington DC. 

The PSA is funded by Mayors Against Illegal Guns. The organization was founded by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino. 

In part the group's mission reads, "As mayors, our highest responsibility is to enforce the law and to protect the people we serve. One of the most difficult challenges we face in meeting this responsibility is preventing criminals from illegally obtaining guns and using them. The issue of illegal guns is not conservative or liberal; it is an issue of law and order — and life or death."
