Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, and David Marks fired from the Beach Boys

After wrapping up their 50th reunion tour, the Beach Boys have unceremoniously fired Brian Wilson and Al Jardine, two of the original members of the band. David Marks was also fired.

Wilson, his brothers Dennis and Carl, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine formed the rock band in 1961. 

Love, who owns the rights to the name "Beach Boys," was the one to make the cuts to the band.

Following the announcement, Wilson told CNN, "I'm disappointed and can't understand why he doesn't want to tour with Al, David, and me. We are out here having so much fun. After all, we are the real Beach Boys." 

Love will reportedly continue to tour as the Beach Boys with a backup band made up of his son Christian and Bruce Johnson. 

Rolling Stone reported that Jardine has taken to his Facebook page to ask fans for their support in ensuring Love does not soil the Beach Boys' name. On his page he wrote:

"To Mike Love. In order to preserve the validity of 'The Beach Boys' as a whole, and not as a 'money saving, stripped down version' that only contains one original member, and one member that joined in 1965, we ask you to reinstate the three other members to the touring group for your final years performing. It's the right thing to do, and it's what the fans want!"

So far the petition has over 4,600 signatures. 

Following the opening of an exhibit about the band's five-decade career, Love said he made the decision to ax his old band mates for financial reasons. "You've got to be careful not to get overexposed. There are promoters who are interested [in the o.g. lineup], but they've said, 'Give it a rest for a year.' The Eagles found out the hard way when they went out for a second year and wound up selling tickets for $5."

Wouldn't it be nice … if they could stay together?
