Randy Newman pens satirical song: “I’m dreaming of a white president” (VIDEO)

Randy Newman, the award-winning composer, has penned a song to show his support for President Barack Obama.

The song, which takes on a satirical, sarcastic tone, is called "I'm Dreaming," and goes, "I'm dreaming of a white president." Newman told the Associated Press that racism was "the great issue of this country," and added, "I don't know how many people you can get to admit it. I think maybe zero."

“I think there are a lot of people who find it jarring to have a black man in the White House and they want him out,” Newman said, according to The New York Times. “They just can’t believe that there’s not a more qualified white man."

Newman, who has won Oscars, Grammys and Emmys for his work on movies such as "Toy Story," "Monsters, Inc.," and the TV series "Monk," is encouraging listeners of the song to donate to the United Negro College Fund, said the AP.

The song, which became available on Tuesday for download, has the lyrics, "I'm dreaming of a white President/ Someone whom we can understand/ Someone who knows where we're coming from," according to Rolling Stone.

Newman told Slate in a recent interview, "[F]or me it's a reaction to the Republican Party, which seems to have drifted farther to the right than a major party has drifted in my lifetime in any direction," according to Rolling Stone. "It seems to have become almost a radical party. The hate and …I don't think it'll last. That kind of thing doesn't seem to last."
