Tulane safety Devon Walker was in stable condition Sunday after breaking his neck during a game in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Saturday.

The ghastly injury, which was caught on video, occurred on the final play of the first half, when Walker Walker and a defensive tackle sandwiched a Tulsa wide receiver and appeared to smash into each other, The Associated Press reported.

Medical personnel from both teams rushed onto the field and the stadium fell largely silent.

Several coaches were in tears as Walker was taken away in an ambulance. Spectators bowed their heads as someone on the field led the stadium in prayer, ESPN reported.

Walker remained at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa and will need surgery in the next day or two, doctors said.

Tulane's team doctor, Greg Stewart, told The New Orleans Times-Picayune that the Tulane senior had some feeling in his arms and legs.
