Nokia issues apology for fake Lumia 920 smartphone ad

GlobalPost

Executives at Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia have been left red faced after they were caught faking parts of an ad for the new Lumia 920 smartphone.

The Verge revealed the fraud on Wednesday afternoon, within hours of Nokia launching the smartphone in New York, after noticing a window reflection revealing a man holding a camera that was definitely not the Lumia 920.

The point of the ad was to promote the PureView technology in the Lumia 920, which Nokia claims allows the user to record stabilized video and shoot better pictures at night, the Los Angeles Times reported.

According to CNET, the video was shot using a dSLR.

Nokia apologized for the “confusion we created.”

"In an effort to demonstrate the benefits of optical image stabilization (which eliminates blurry images and improves pictures shot in low light conditions), we produced a video that simulates what we will be able to deliver with OIS.

"Of course, hindsight is 20/20, but we should have posted a disclaimer stating this was a representation of OIS only. This was not shot with a Lumia 920. At least, not yet. We apologise for the confusion we created."
