Former Navy SEAL to release book on Bin Laden raid

A former Navy SEAL Team 6 member who took part in the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden has written a book about the event.

The book is set to be released on Sept. 11, and is titled,  “No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama bin Laden.”

The New York Times reported that Penguin Group will be publishing the book, which it promises to be one of the biggest titles of the year, with "the potential to rattle the presidential campaign in the final weeks before the Nov. 6 election."

The authors real name will not be released with the book, nor will any of the actual SEAL Team 6 member's names. Instead the author has used the pseudonym Mark Owen.

According to Reuters, the book was not vetted by government agencies to ensure that no secrets were revealed.

Christine Ball, a spokeswoman for the publisher, told Reuters, "The book was vetted by a former special operations attorney. He vetted it for tactical, technical, and procedural information as well as information that could be considered classified by compilation and found it to be without risk to national security."

Reuters also reported that Republicans have accused President Barack Obama's administration of engaging in "selective leaks to bolster the Democrat's national security credentials." The White House denied those accusations.

"We learned about this book today from press reports. We haven't reviewed it and don't know what it says," White House spokesman Tommy Vietor told Reuters.

This will not be the only account of the Bin Laden event coming out this fall.

Kathryn Bigelow, an Oscar-winning director, along with screenwriter Mark Boal are releasing a movie about the raid titled "Zero Dark Thirty."

The film will focus on the decade-long hunt for bin Laden, according to CNN.

CNN also noted that the film was originally set for release just before the election, however Republicans complained that it was a pro-Obama ad, and it was pushed back until December.
