Norway: Driver misses moose only to hit bear

Drivers in Norway are statistically more likely to hit a moose than a bear on the road.

The Scandinavian country has about 100,000 moose compared with just 150 bears, Reuters reported.

Those numbers make the following driver very unlucky.

A man driving on a country road near Hanestad, a couple of hundred kilometers north of the Norwegian capital Oslo, late Wednesday spotted a moose on the road, TV2 reported.

The driver managed to swerve, miss the moose and then hit a bear.

“The driver had lost a bit of speed as he tried to avoid the moose before hitting the bear," Svein Erik Bjorke, from the local wildlife authority, was quoted by Reuters as saying.

Authorities are now searching for the wounded animal.

"We are currently tracking the bear and we have found traces of blood indicating internal injuries," Bjorke said.

As for the driver and his passengers, they escaped uninjured, Norwegian newspaper Ostledingen reported.

Ostledingen said the wounded bear may be angry and authorities have warned local residents to be careful.
