Special forces group attacks Obama for bragging about bin Laden raid

GlobalPost

A group of former US intelligence and special forces members will soon launch a media campaign scolding President Barack Obama for taking credit for killing Osama bin Laden, the Telegraph reported.

The leaders of the group, the Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund Inc., maintain that their group is nonpartisan and unconnected to any political party. The Telegraph reported that the group's primary purpose to further the common good, and is registered as a social welfare group.

In a television spot set to be released Wednesday, the group will criticize Obama's administration over what they claim are high level leaks that are endangering American lives. It features former defense officials speaking about the current administration, according to Reuters, which viewed the film in advance.

"Mr. President, you did not kill Osama bin Laden, America did. The work that the American military has done killed Osama bin Laden. You did not," Ben Smith, identified as a Navy SEAL, says in the film, viewed in advance by the Hill.

An Obama campaign official told Reuters: "No one in this group is in a position to speak with any authority on these issues and on what impact these leaks might have, and it's clear they've resorted to making things up for purely political reasons."

The White House has categorically denied leaking any documents, Reuters reported.

The raid on bin Laden has become a somewhat controversial part of this election cycle in the US.

In April, the Obama administration drew criticism after releasing an ad that questioned whether Mitt Romney would have approved the raid to kill bin Laden. Obama has also referenced the raid along the campaign trail to highlight his foreign policy successes.

A new book has claimed that Obama canceled the operation to kill Al Qaeda leader bin Laden three times on the advice of senior political adviser Valerie Jarrett, before finally approving the successful Navy SEALs raid on May 2, 2011.
