McDonald’s gets the ‘Mad Men’ treatment in the UK
The new UK Mcdonald’s uniforms were inspired by Mad Men.
McDonald's is giving its UK operation a Don Draper overhaul ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The home of the Big Mac unveiled new Mad Men-inspired uniforms designed by Wayne Hemingway of Red or Dead, according to the New York Daily News.
The uniforms will first be rolled out to the staff working in McDonald's four restaurants on the Olympic Park and Athletes village in Stratford. They will be introduced to all 87,500 workers in the UK this autumn, according to the Telegraph.
The Guardian got a sneak-peak at the new duds, reporting that Hemingway ditched the traditional baseball cap replacing it with a tighter fitting "jockey cap." He also changed the colors from a deep brown to a mustard and "gherkin" green color scheme.
To round out his Mad Men theme, Hemingway added 1960s inspired skinny ties for male managers and pencil skirts for female managers (more Joan than Peggy). Both will get Fred Perry style polo shirts.
Hemingway told the Telegraph that the managers' uniforms "hark back to a day of really classy air travel. We wanted a classic design. A narrow tie will always be fashionable."
The only question is will McDonald's be serving up Sterling Cooper Draper Price whiskey too?
