Dutch Prince regrets throwing toilet

On April 30, it was the birthday of Beatrix, Queen of the Netherlands, and the Dutch people celebrated with a traditional toilet bowl throwing contest, BBC News reported. But one royal participant now has some regrets. 

Crown Prince Willem-Alexander, the heir to the Dutch throne, said that he was thinking about less fortunate people in the world as he threw the toilet. "I participated with a smile, but not without shame in thinking about the some 2.6 billion people around the world that do not have this most basic infrastructure to fulfill a daily need with dignity," he announced, according to the Associated Foreign Press. However, his concerns didn't mess up his game too much: he ended up winning the contest.

Of course, it may all have to do with the time and place: the prince made his announcement at a meeting on sustainability, probably not a place where people would champion toilet-throwing. He's also currently chairmen of the UN secretary general's advisory board on water and sanitation, Dutch News reported.

Jakob Buitenhuis, the contest organizer, dismissed the prince's concerns as childish. "Because he won, we even gave him a cup with a little toilet on top with a string you can pull to flush it," he told the Algemeen Dagblad.
