Air Canada plane bound for Japan makes emergency landing
A report released Monday said a sleepy Air Canada pilot dived plane hundreds of feet to avoid an imaginary aircraft.
An Air Canada jet bound for Japan has made an emergency landing.
Flight AC001 landed safely in Toronto after an engine shut down after takeoff from Pearson International Airport, the Associated Press reported.
Peter Fitzpatrick, a spokesperson for Air Canada, said there were no injuries reported.
318 passengers were aboard the Boeing 777 with an additional 16 crew members. Air Canada's spokesman said the plane landed normally on one engine but the cause of the engine shutdown remains unknown.
The plane landed at 3:53 p.m. local time after being in the air for about an hour and a half, according to the Toronto Star.
“I was quite surprised that everyone was very calm,” said Jason Flick, 42, who was on board. “I seemed to be more scared than everyone else.”
