Uganda: Women strip to protest Ingrid Turinawe arrest

An attempt to set a world record for the longest chain of bras was canceled when the lingerie became tangled. Volunteers in the U.K. had attempted to beat the record of 166,000 linked bras, held by Australia.

A group of Ugandan women have stripped to their bras to protest the alleged sexual assault by police of Ingrid Turinawe, a prominent opposition politician.

Turinawe heads the women's league for the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), the party of Kizza Besigye.

Ugandan TV footage shows a police officer squeezing Turinawe's breast during her arrest at a rally Friday near Kampala, the BBC reported. She is heard crying out in pain.

Several women were arrested Monday after stripping at a police station in central Kampala to protest the way in which Turinawe was arrested, Uganda's Daily Monitor reported

The BBC said about 15 women marched to the police station holding placards, one of which read: "How would you feel if we squeezed your balls?"

Agence France-Presse reported that six women, all female opposition activists, were detained for about two hours.

They were then released without charge, AFP said.
