Rachel Veitch, 93, to sell her 1964 Mercury after 576,000 miles on the road (VIDEO)

93-year-old Rachel Veitch's 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente has outlasted three marriages and 18 battery changes, and after 576,000 miles behind the wheel, she is finally ready to let it go. 

"I am legally blind, so I can no longer drive my lovely Chariot," Veitch told Fox News. "They don’t have to take it away, I would not dream of driving that car again."

Veitch, who was forced to give up driving on March 9th after being declared legally blind, bought the car in February 1964 for $3,289. The Mercury, which she affectionately calls her Chariot, has gone through 18 batteries, eight mufflers and countless oil changes, and is worth about $12,000 today, according to Fox. She credits its long life-span to her meticulousness. 

"I have never been a throw-away person," she told AOL Autos in a 2009 interview. "I came up in the Depression and my whole being is devoted to saving, and conserving and preserving."

The retired nurse fastidiously recorded her mileage and miles per gallon by hand every time she filled up, the International Business Times reported.

"I've never been a destructive person and I've just taken care of everything, except my husbands," Veitch told the IBT. 

Veitch doesn't plan to leave the car to her 4 children, 9 grandchildren, or 11 great-grandchildren because "they couldn't take care of it like I did," she said. 

So who will she sell it to? Veitch has her eye on late-night talk-show host Jay Leno, a lover of classic cars. 

"I haven't talked to Jay Leno yet, but I'm wondering if he's interested. But I don't think I should start talking about it now," she told BBC News.
