James Bond short film to open the 2012 London Olympics
British actor Daniel Craig arrives for the world premiere of the new James Bond film “Quantum of Solace” in London. Craig will star in a short film introducing the 2012 Olympic Games.
Daniel Craig will take on the role of James Bond in a short intro film to the 2012 London Olympics called "The Arrival," in which Queen Elizabeth personally invites 007 to Buckingham Palace to request his help in launching the Games, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Danny Boyle, the director of Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting, is directing the introduction, the Sun Newspaper reported. Boyle, 44-year-old Craig, and a film crew were given unprecedented access to the Queen’s private rooms on Tuesday, according to the Sun. They also reportedly shot helicopter and parachuting scenes.

The collaboration between Bond and Buckingham Palace is an especially meaningful one: James Bond is celebrating his 50th year on screen, and the Queen is marking her diamond jubilee, the Huffington Post reported.
Her Majesty may even make a cameo appearance in the Olympics film, but the Palace is staying mum on the subject.
“Buckingham Palace is involved in a number of filming projects during this special Jubilee year and we would not go into details of any particular project until nearer the time of transmission,” a royal spokesperson said in a statement, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The latest Bond movie, Skyfall, is set to open in US theaters on November 9.
