Oakland Shootings: 7 dead at Oikos University religious school campus (UPDATES)
Police surround Oikos University in Oakland, where a suspect shot and killed 7 people and wounded 3 others.
Seven people are dead and three wounded in Oakland, after a gunman opened fire at Oikos University, a religious school in the Californian city, according to The Associated Press.
“As it stands now, we are confirming that a total of 10 people were injured during this morning’s shooting, 7 of which are fatalities,” Oakland police spokeswoman Cynthia Perkins wrote in an e-mail to CBS San Francisco.
A suspect whose identity has not been released was taken into custody in the parking lot of a Safeway store at South Shore shopping center at about 12:20 p.m., according to CBS.
The suspect has been described as a stocky Korean man in his 40s wearing khaki clothing, according to local news stations.
The AP also said the shootings occured shortly after 10:30 am local time, or 1:30 pm EDT. Preliminary reports were unclear: According to California Beat, footage taken from a news helicopter showed "at least four bodies covered by yellow tarps in the median of the road outside."

"I can confirm that we do have one person who has been detained that we believe is possibly responsible for this shooting," CBS quoted Officer Johnna Watson as saying. The Oakland Tribune reported that the suspected was arrested at Alameda's South Shore Center.

"One of the people who was inside the building, she was saying there is a crazy guy inside," witness Brian Snow told local television station KGO-TV. "She did say someone got shot in the chest right next to her before she got taken off in an ambulance," he added.
