Obama phones Georgetown student Limbaugh called a "slut"

President Obama called Georgetown University Law School student, Sandra Fluke, Friday with a message of support after radio host Rush Limbaugh called the student activist who supports better access to contraception a "slut" and a "prostitute."

Fluke, who received the phone call in the green room of MSNBC where she was to be interviewed said of her talk with the President: “He encouraged me and supported me and thanked me for speaking out about the concerns of American women,” reported Politico.

She went on to say: “And what was really personal for me was that he said to tell my parents that they should be proud. And that meant a lot because Rush Limbaugh questioned whether or not my family would be proud of me. So I just appreciated that very much.”

After Fluke appeared on MSNBC, White House press secretary Jay Carney confirmed the president's call saying, “He wanted to offer his support to her."

Fluke spoke to Democratic lawmakers in a hearing last week on the cost to female students of birth control that is not covered by health plans provided by some religious-affiliated institutions, said the Washington Post.

Limbaugh picked up the student's remarks on his radio show and said: "It makes her a slut, right?" he mused. "It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex. What does that make us? We’re the pimps."

In his radio show Friday, Limbaugh said he thought it was "touching" that Obama had called Fluke personally.

"Oh that's touching, Obama just called Sandra Fluke to make sure she's all right," Limbaugh said, according to CBS News. "That is so compassionate, what a great guy."
