Limbaugh calls student ‘slut’ for wanting birth control

Rush Limbaugh added fuel to a fire he started earlier this week, suggesting “feminazis” post online sex videos in exchange for subsidized birth control.

The radio shock jock faced a barrage of critics Wednesday when he called student Sandra Fluke a “slut” after she testified at a Congressional hearing.

“What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute,” Limbaugh said, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. “She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception.”

Fluke is a law student at Georgetown, a Catholic university that doesn’t subsidize birth control. She told the hearing students pay as much as $1,000 per year for birth control.

To drive home his point, Limbaugh on Thursday took his argument a step further.

“So Miss Fluke, and the rest of you ‘feminazis,’ here’s the deal,” Limbaugh said, the New York Daily News reported. “If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch.”

The controversy began after Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) sponsored a congressional hearing into the Obama administration’s birth control coverage bill. The bill says religious employers, such as schools and hospitals, must provide health care insurance that includes birth control.

However, only men testified at the hearing, so Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) sponsored a counter-hearing at which Fluke appeared.

Fluke didn’t wade into the mire for a response to Limbaugh’s attack.

“We are fortunate to live in a democracy where everyone is entitled to their own opinions regarding legitimate policy differences,” she said, according to the New Jersey Star-Ledger.

“This language is an attack on all women, and has been used throughout history to silence our voices. The millions of American women who have and will continue to speak out in support of women’s health care and access to contraception prove that we will not be silenced.”
