T.J. Lane, the 17-year-old suspected of going on a shooting spree at Chardon High School in Ohio on Feb. 27, was charged in Geauga County juvenile court today, the Associated Press reported.

He was charged with three juvenile counts of aggravated murder, two counts of attempted aggravated murder and a single count of felonious assault, the AP reported.

While Lane was charged as a juvenile, it is likely he will be tried as an adult, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

Another hearing tentatively set for March 19 will determine whether there is probable cause to support the charges. If there is probable cause, Ohio law requires Lane's case to be transferred to adult criminal court.

If Lane is charged as an adult, he could face life in prison without parole, the AP reported. Whether he is convicted as a juvenile or an adult, under Ohio state law he is not eligible for the death penalty because he is a minor.

Earlier in the week, prosecutor David Joyce said Lane admitted to taking a .22-caliber pistol and a knife to Chardon High and firing randomly at students in the cafeteria, the AP reported.

Demetrius Hewlin, 16, Russell King Jr., 17, and Daniel Parmertor, 16, were killed, and two other students were wounded in the attack, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.
