Porn password heist puts millions of users at risk

GlobalPost

In one of the largest porn password heists in the history of the internet, up to one million users’ email addresses and passwords from YouPorn, one of the most popular websites on the internet, were hacked and made accessible to the general public.

While the size of the security breach was originally unknown, cyber security specialist Anders Nilsson suspects that it left the personal information of “well over a million” users open and accessible until the YouPorn server was eventually shut down yesterday.

YouPorn blames a third party adult chat service that was hosted on their website for failing to make user data secure.

"YouPorn continues to ensure that all appropriate measures and tools are in place to maintain the security of its infrastructure, and to safeguard the privacy of its users," said Kate Miller, spokesperson for YouPorn’s parent company and porn giant Manwin Holding SARL.

An analysis of the passwords showed that perhaps a hack wasn’t even necessary, with the majority of passwords being 123456, followed by the second-most common password: 123456789.

Wednesday’s hack is the second security breach for Manwin-owned porn websites. Earlier this month, the Brazzers porn website lost thousands of passwords after a 17-year-old Moroccan claiming allegiance to Anonymous broke into the server.

Unfortunately, no emails from a .gov domain were registerd with the site.
