Iran warns US over Syria conflict, crackdown grows

Two Iranian warships docked in a Syrian port on Monday as a senior Iranian lawmaker denounced the possibility that the US might arm the Syrian opposition, the New York Times reported.
Tensions are growing among members of the international community over the growing violence in Syria as the government of President Bashar al-Assad continues to step up its nearly year-long crackdown.

Syrian tanks and troops massed outside Homs on Monday as The International Committee of the Red Cross said it was trying to broker a cease-fire in order to deliver aid to some of the most devastated areas, the Associated Press reported.
The city of Homs has become a critical battle ground in the conflict.
“The biggest challenge in Homs is Baba Amr,” said activist Wissam Tarif to the New York Times. “They cannot move military power to Idlib or Hama without finishing Homs first. They cannot leave any pockets of resistance behind them.” He said 16 people had been killed in Homs on Monday. Such reports are impossible to verify.
"The human loss is going to be huge if they retake Baba Amr," said Rami Abdul-Rahman, who heads the Britain-based activist group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
