GLBT soldiers deployed in Afghanistan tell younger generation: ‘It Gets Better’ (VIDEO)
In their ‘It Gets Better’ video, openly LGBT military servicemen and women encourage youth who are facing difficulties because of their sexuality.
Four GLBT soldiers deployed in Afghanistan have filmed an 'It Gets Better' video to help prevent suicides and bullying among gay youth, Military Times reported.
Just over a year after the Obama administration ended Don't Ask, Don't Tell, these servicemen and women based in in Bagram, Afghanistan, have made a video to help others experiencing similar struggles to what they went through, The Huffington Post reported.
"Whether you're gay, straight, bisexual, transgender, genderqueer – whatever, no one should be put down because of who they are," one female service member says in the two-and-a-half minute video.
The video was filmed through OutServe, an organization dedicated to helping GLBT military members on active duty, and is part of the 'It Gets Better' campaign started by prominent gay writer and pundit Dan Savage. Gays, lesbians, and GLBT supporters around the world have participated in the project, which is meant to encourage youth who are facing difficulties because of their sexuality.
The 'It Gets Better' project has received submissions from prominent figures including Hillary Clinton, Ellen DeGeneres, Suze Orman, and the staffs of Google, Facebook and Pixar.

"You never know really what to expect in life, but if you believe in yourself you can be able to do anything," Army Staff Sgt. Steven Procter says in the video. "So just look at everyone around you, make some good friends and anyone who will accept you for who you are as you try to make something of yourself. Don't allow anyone to tell you you can't do anything."
Until September 20, 2011, gays and lesbians were not allowed to openly serve in the military. The 'It Gets Better' campaign launched in 2010.
