Tim Howard, the Everton goalkeeper, made news this week for his 100-yard, unassisted goal into Bolton’s net on Wednesday. But Howard wasn’t celebrating the amazing goal.

Howard, the USA international, was the fourth goalkeeper, and the second American, to score in the Premier League, the Associated Press reported. Picking up some wind, the ball bounced over Bolton’s second-choice keeper into the net, giving Everton the lead at Goodison Park, the Guardian reported.

“I was delighted that we were in the lead and would hopefully go on to get three points, but it’s not a nice feeling for a keeper. It’s really awful actually,” Howard told Sky Sports, the AP reported. “For the back four and the goalkeepers at both ends, there was an awful wind swirling. You could see everybody was mistiming balls. Defenders were missing clearances that normally they would put up the field. I think the wind is the hardest condition to play in. Snow, rain, sun doesn’t matter, but the wind really does play tricks on you.”

In the end, Howard’s goal counted for nothing when Liverpool's Everton lost to Bolton anyway, the Guardian reported. Following the match, Howard caught up with Bolton’s goalkeeper.

“I let him know that I was feeling for him,” Howard said, the AP reported. “It’s not a nice place to be. I’ve been there before, a long, long time ago, and that was why I didn’t celebrate.”

But whether Howard felt good about the goal or not, it immediately went viral and both Everton and Tim Howard were trending on Twitter after it happened. Check out the goal here.
