Australian woman mauled by kangaroo calls her survival a miracle (VIDEO)

Yes, it happens from time to time.

A kangaroo has viciously attacked a woman walking her dogs through bush land in Western Australia.

Janet Karson needed more than 20 stitches to her ears, and suffered cuts and bruising all over her body, after she challenged the kangaroo, which was attacking her dog.

"I went off the main track and suddenly this big kangaroo jumped out from nowhere and one of my dogs chased after it," she told The West Australian newspaper.

Karson ran after her blue heeler and found it being bear-hugged by the kangaroo.

"I used a stick to lever its claws off my dog and then it reared up in front of me — it was huge," she said.

"All I can remember is its claws going to work on me and the smell of my own blood when my head fell onto its chest."

That's the scary thing about kangaroos — they seem all cute and cuddly and the… BAM!

In July, an 94-year-old Australian woman was forced to box a kangaroo when the animal attacker her while she was hanging out laundry.

"I thought it was going to kill me," Phyllis Johnson said at the time. "It was taller than me and it just plowed through the clothes on the washing line straight for me."

Unlike the magpie attacks that frequently occur at this time of year Down Under — usually the birds defending their nests — kangaroo attacks are usually completely unexpected, and completely unprovoked.

Karson told the West Australian that it was a miracle she survived the attack and afterward, and that afterward the kangaroo just hopped away.
