Tomas Transtromer, a Swedish poet, won the Nobel literature prize Thursday.

Transtromer is known for his works on the mysteries of the human mind and has been considered one of the most important Scandinavian writers since World War II, the Associated Press reports.

The Swedish Academy gave the award to the 80-year-old poet "because, through his condensed, translucent images, he gives us fresh access to reality."

The 2011 Nobel peace prize will be announced tomorrow. Who do you think it will be? See this GlobalPost slideshow on the top nominees.
