UK police charge six over alleged bomb plot

British police have charged six men with terrorism offenses, including a suspected suicide bombing plot.

The BBC reported that four of the men were charged with preparing for an act of terrorism in the United Kingdom, while two were charged with failing to disclose information.

One of those two was also reportedly charged with terrorist fundraising.

The six were arrested in England's second city of Birmingham last week, and are due to appear before West London Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The West Midlands police department said the arrests of the men, who are all residents of Birmingham, were part of a "major operation" by the counterterrorism unit.

Irfan Nasser, 30, Irfan Khalid, 26, Ashik Ali, 26, and Rahin Ahmed, 25, were charged with planning terrorist acts between December 2010 and this month, the Associated Press said.

Nasser and Khalid are accused of preparing for an act of terrorism, including traveling to Pakistan for terrorism training, making a “martyrdom video” and planning to carry out a bombing campaign.

Along with Ali, they are alleged to have constructed a home-made bomb intended for a suicide attack.

Meanwhile Ahmed is accused of helping others travel to Pakistan for terrorism training, and of collecting money for terrorism.

Ali's brother Bahader Ali, 28, and Mohammed Rizwan, 32, are charged with failing to disclose information about acts of terrorism, while Bahader Ali is also charged with terrorist fundraising.

Media reports say a seventh man, aged 20 and also from Birmingham, is still being questioned.
