Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona Congresswoman shot in the head in January, now knows the full details of the rampage that killed six people and left her fighting for her life.

A spokesman for Giffords, 41, as saying she was "deeply saddened" when she learned the names of the dead in late July, the Telegraph reports.

Her close aide Gabe Zimmerman was among those killed.

"She said she felt awful about Gabe," the Arizona Republic quotes Zimmerman's father, Ross Zimmerman, as saying.

Giffords had rung him to express her condolences, with her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, on speakerphone, the paper reports. "When Mark commented that she thought of him [Gabe] as her little brother, she said 'yes' very emphatically," Zimmerman reportedly said.

Kelly said in June that Giffords knew how many people were killed or wounded but wasn't aware that Zimmerman and Judge John Roll, whom she knew well, were among them, according to The Associated Press.

Giffords was fully informed by late July, before her surprise visit to Capitol Hill on Aug. 1 to vote on the federal debt ceiling, the ABC reports.

Giffords, who apparently does not remember the shooting which occurred while she was meeting with constituents outside a Safeway grocery store in Tucson, "still has some trouble with language," Ross Zimmerman reportedly said.

"But there is no question that she can get her point across and her comprehension is 100 percent," the Arizona Republic reports him as saying.

Giffords was released from hospital on June 15, but has been undergoing physical, occupational and speech therapy in Houston as part of her rehabilitation.

The Arizona Republic reports that Giffords was intentionally kept in the dark about the victims' identities for nearly seven months as she recovers from a gunshot wound to the head.

Nine-year-old Christina-Taylor Green was also among those killed, and 12 others in addition to Miss Giffords were wounded.
