Divorcing J Lo plays wedding in Ukraine (Updated)

Don’t feel too sorry for Jennifer Lopez (or, as Russians prefer to call her, Djey Lo). Four days after announcing that she and husband Marc Anthony (not to be confused with this guy) were getting divorced, the US pop star showed up in southern Ukraine to perform at the wedding of an Uzbek tycoon’s son.

According to tabloid Life News, she got one million dollars for the gig in Yalta.

The lucky man was Amon Aslanov, son of Azam Aslanov, an Uzbek businessman.

“Are you happy?” Lopez shouted from the stage. “I’m happy, because I’m here today, with you!” All this according to the tabloid and reports in Ukraine.

I haven’t actually heard of Aslanov before, but some cursory research shows he appears to control Anegada Metals Corporation, which partly owns a smelter in Australia, and might itself be controlled by a larger firm called Transal Holdings.

J Lo is no stranger to performing for some of the region’s most, er, colorful businessmen. Among the guests at Tuesday’s wedding were Suleiman Kerimov and Telman Ismailov, the latter of whom, according to the video posted below, J Lo appears to positively adore taking money from. Watch her coo for him, before performing a song and then accepting what appear to be diamonds and a gold plated microphone. A little while later, authorities shut down Ismailov’s Cherkizovsky Market for employing thousands of illegal immigrants and trading in counterfeit goods.
