“Honeymoon from hell” for Prince Albert and Charlene?

The wedding of Monaco’s Prince Albert to Charlene Wittstock keeps getting weirder, amid reports that the couple slept in separate beds while on their honeymoon in South Africa.

Prince Albert’s palace is in damage-control mode after a British tabloid reported that the couple slept in hotels 10 miles apart while honeymooning in Durban on South Africa’s Indian Ocean coast last week.

This follows news about Albert’s paternity suits and Charlene’s repeated attempts at running away before the wedding, in sharp contrast to British royal newlyweds Prince William and Kate Middleton's fairytale nuptials in April.

The palace in Monaco told the Daily Mail that Albert and Charlene slept in different hotels for “practical reasons,” because the prince had meetings at the Hilton with the International Olympic Committee, of which he is a member.

Charlene stayed at the Oyster Box Hotel in the posh Umhlanga Rocks area north of Durban, and reportedly downgraded her room from the $5,000 a night suite originally booked, according to South Africa’s News 24.

Charlene’s father, meanwhile, said Albert just wanted to avoid “traffic congestion.”

The honeymoon was cut short because Albert, 53, needed to take care of DNA testing in his fight against a paternity suit.

The bald prince is accused of fathering a third child out of wedlock. He has already admitted to having two children, but this one is said to have been conceived while he was engaged to Charlene, 33.

The palace insists that the couple is still in South Africa and planning another honeymoon soon.

Charlene, a former South African Olympic swimmer, has said she hopes to start a family with her new husband "soon.”
