Rapture 2011: Did we miss it?

The world as we know it was supposed to end today. It didn't.

(Or at least not yet.)

American preacher Harold Camping has been insisting with absolute certainty that May 21, 2011, would be "Judgment Day," a day when believers of Lord Jesus would be “raptured” to heaven and the rest of the world's population would be killed off by earthquakes and other natural disasters.

Camping, after carefully studying the Bible for years, timed the Rapture to take place at 6 P.M. in each of the world's time zones.

And yet, 6 P.M. on May 21 in the Pacific Islands, New Zealand, Australia and now India has passed — and nothing (that we know of) particularly exciting has happened.

Camping, as the Guardian states, now looks a bit less than rapturous.

While the earth has not experienced massive earthquakes or the sudden disappearance of believers, Twitter has been abuzz with talk of the rapture.

One trending term is #myraptureplaylist, and people have been busy entertaining themselves by choosing the perfect song to mark the end of the world.

Here are some top choices: Queen's "Another one bites the dust," Paula Abdul's "Dance like there's no tomorrow,"and REM's "It's the end of the world as we know it."

Others are busy sharing their #endoftheworldconfessions.

A Twitter user with account name @Lord_Voldemort7 writes, "I 'let the dogs out.' It was me."
