Voices from the Gulf: Ryan Lambert, Charter Boat Captain

The Takeaway

Wednesday is the one-year anniversary of the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. All week long on The Takeaway, we’ll be speaking to residents of the Gulf region whose lives, businesses and communities were profoundly impacted by the oil gusher that followed the explosion. Ryan Lambert is president of  Cajun Fishing Adventures  in Louisiana, a business he founded and has run for 30 years. He is also vice president of the Louisiana Charter Boat Association.
“When [the explosion] first happened, it was all about those poor eleven guys who got killed,” Lambert says. “We had no idea what was going to happen.”
But as oil continued to gush, Lambert was hit with with hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost business. He tells us about the devastating financial impact the oil gusher had on his business.  Ryan’s story can also be seen in  “Stories from the Gulf: Living with Oil Disaster,”  a documentary produced by the Natural Resources Defense Council which will air on Discovery’s Planet Green on April 23rd.
