There’s been some U.S. coverage of the trial of two American pilots charged in connection with a plane-on-plane collision over the Amazon that killed 154 people in 2006. But they aren’t following the proceedings with nearly the same scrutiny as the Brazilian media, which is offering daily and detailed updates of the testimony. Today’s installment, from the Globo news site G1, compared the testimony of one pilot Joseph Lepore, with that of fellow flier Jan Paladino. According to G1’s account of the testimony, Lepore said the two men did not discuss their flight plan prior to departure, while Paladino in his testimony Wednesday said the discussion did occur. In an unusual arrangement, the two pilots are participating in the trial from Central Islip, Long Island, via video link. Outlets in Brazil are reporting they face a possible prison sentence of 1 to 5 years.
