A Brazilian star of the Oscar-nominated documentary “Waste Land” may be barred from the ceremony due to visa troubles. The documentary follows an artist who collaborates with workers at a Rio de Janeiro landfill, turning trash into into creations that sell for thousands of dollars at international are auctions. One of the stars of the movie —titled "Lixo Extraordinario" in Portuguese—is a recycler named Sebastiao Carlos dos Santos, 32, president of the garbage-pickers association. The film’s director told Reuters that U.S. authorities have turned down dos Santos’s visa request, but the decision is being appealed.
