Times have changed, but farming hasn’t

THUY PHUONG, Vietnam — Rural life in the villages of Hue is a dynamic way of life encompassing every aspect of subsistence living.

Very few people these days have a diet almost completely made up of food grown right in their own communities.

Vietnamese farmers feel both pride and frustration when it comes to their livelihood.

While growing and selling within one's village can foster a sense of community, hardships often arise when farmers are not provided government assistance or resources to achieve the crop yields that would allow them to live comfortably. 

To compensate, farmers must work harder and longer, always with the needs of their families in mind.
