Guitarist and Rock music innovator Jimi Hendrix died 40 years ago this week in Kensington’s Samarkind Hotel, he was 27.

Born in Seattle, Washington, Hendrix was an avid listener of the Blues but soon found a style all his own. He’s widely regarded as the one of the world’s most creative electric guitar player in rock and roll, influencing and informing countless of musicians in the years to come.

Vernon Reid is best known as the founder of the seminal progressive hard rock band Living Colour. We speak to Vernon before he heads out on the 2010 Experience Jimi Tour about the influences that played on Hendrix’s life and career, and the legacy of the work he left behind.
