BOSTON — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez showed his angry side this week when he severed relations with neighboring Colombia.

Chavez announced the break after Colombia accused Venezuela of harboring leftist guerrillas. He called outgoing Colombian President Alvaro Uribe a "mafia boss," a "madman" and a "criminal."

Venezuela's loquacious leader is nothing if not expressive — he once referred to then-U.S. President George W. Bush as the "devil" in a speech at the United Nations.
