A breakthrough in Thailand

Quentin Somerville of the BBC speaks with John Hockenberry about the situation in Bangkok, Thailand, where anti-government protesters have taken the international airport.

Somerville reports that the ranks of protesters are growing as hundreds stream into airport terminal after being told by their leaders to leave downtown Bangkok’s government house where a grenade attack injured 50 of the group. Tourists are not getting in and out of Bangkok and that is having a catastrophic impact on Thailand’s economy which depends on tourism. The protesters let 80 or so aircraft leave, but the planes were empty. They flew to other airports in Thailand. Now travelers will have to drive there, about a 10-hour drive away, to leave the country. Somerville reports that it looks unlikely that this will be resolved in the government’s favor.
