Iranians react to Obama victory

This man stayed up most of the night to watch the U.S. election returns. He watched the news on the BBC’s Arabic News Channel, because state TV didn’t provide much coverage. He says the Iranian people are interested in Obama because he has a Muslim name, even though he’s not Muslim which is not a problem. He hopes the Middle East will see peace during Obama’s presidency. This woman says most people hope Obama would help reduce the possibility of a U.S. military strike on Iran over Tehran’s nuclear program. But the man worries that Obama’s victory could increase the chance for an attack on Iran by Israel. Still he believes Obama’s victory can help improve Iran-U.S. relations and hopes Iran will choose a president who can cooperate with Obama when they elect a new president in a few months.
