UN report on Iran nuclear program

The World

If you’re following the updates on Iran, today’s news might sound like a recording. The IAEA has demanded that Iran comply with inspectors, which Iran defies and then offers some compromises. But this one might be a bit different. This analyst says the international community is hoping Iran will release some info on a secret weapons program that Iran shelved in 2003, according to US intelligence estimates. Iran continues to say it wants nuclear abilities only for civilian purposes, but Iran’s track record on withholding information has many Western leaders skeptical. So the analyst says if the IAEA report reveals that Iran has made advances in enriching uranium then we’ll have to prepare ourselves for conflict. The Bush administration will almost surely call for more sanctions against Iran, but it takes time for sanctions to take effect and during that time this analyst says Iran will continue to enrich uranium.
