Kassim the Dream

Fair Game
The World

In 2004, Kassim “The Dream” Ouma became a boxing star when he won the title Junior Middleweight Champion of the World. But his life didn’t start out so rosy. Kassim is originally from Uganda. When he was 6 years old he was kidnapped by rebels and became a soldier in the National Resistance Army. After 12 years of warfare, Kassim deserted the Army and sought asylum in the United States and became a boxing champ. It’s a story worthy of a movie – and now one has been made. It’s called Kassim The Dream, by filmmaker Kief Davidson, and it’s premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. Kief Davidson and Kassim Ouma speak with Faith Salie on Fair Game.
