Spain looks to post-Fidel Cuba

The European Union and the US have their own embargos and political snubs against Cuba, but Spain is proudly different. The Spanish Prime Minister has said recently he wants Cubans to have as much freedom as possible. Spain's policy has been one of direct engagement in defiance of the EU and US. Yesterday when Fidel Castro said he would not seek another term as president, Spain said they would try to accompany and help Cuba. These moves makes sense for Spain�Cuba was once part of the Spanish empire, they share the same language, and they do a lot of business together especially in tourism. This economist and Cuba expert says Cuba is Spain's third largest trade partner in Latin America and that direct affects Spain's foreign policy. The majority of oil exploration in Cuba is being done by a Spanish company. The economist says Spain will try to exert more influence in the EU's policy towards Cuba.
