Back in 2003, singer-songwriter Ryan Costello sold everything he owned, joined a humanitarian organization and moved to Afghanistan, where he worked with returned refugees for the next two years. When he came back to the United States, he started a band called The OaKs with his songwriting partner Matthew Antolick, and began to flesh out the songs he wrote about what he witnessed in Afghanistan.
