Sergei Tretyakov on ‘Bob Edwards Weekend’
During the late 1990s, Russian "diplomat" Sergei Tretyakov was in fact a Russian spy in New York City for the post-Cold War successor of the KGB. But unknown to his superiors, Tretyakov also worked for US intelligence as a double agent. Bob talks with Tretyakov and with writer Pete Earley about his new book titled "Comrade J."
A lifelong communist, Tretyakov joined the KGB and rose through the ranks of Soviet intelligence to secure leadership positions and espionage missions abroad. After the breakup of the Soviet Union, Tretyakov became disillusioned with the new Russian leadership and decided to defect to the United Stages in the year 2000, turning over his secrets to the FBI and CIA. Now, for the first time, many of the secrets known only to Tretyakov and a select group of Russian intelligence officers have been brought into the light through the new book, "Comrade J: The Untold Secret of Russia’s Master Spy in America After the End of the Cold War."
